Used polypropylene (PP) food packaging can serve as a source for the production of recycled polypropylene (rPP) as a secondary raw material. Today, however, hardly any PP packaging is recycled in Switzerland (CH). However, calls from politicians and the general public to close the cycle for PP packaging are becoming ever louder. However, in order to enable a closed PP cycle for food packaging, and in particular the requirements for food conformity for rPP, the entire value chain must work together. At the same time, the regulations for food use pose the greatest risk to the successful closing of the PP loop.
The vision of the FCMrPP project is to establish a closed cycle for FCM-rPP in Switzerland. Such a cycle conserves resources, contributes to achieving the net-zero target and increases the resilience of the Swiss economy.
