Introduction to the research area:

The Institute for Technology Management conducts international research projects in close cooperation with renowned industrial companies and consulting firms. As part of your thesis, you will support us in the area of Global Production by working on research projects related to the design and management of global production networks. 

 

Introduction to the thesis topic:

Switzerland's manufacturing sector is widely recognized for its exceptional precision, high quality, and strong innovative capacity. As a fundamental pillar of the national economy, it significantly contributes to GDP growth and economic stability. The factors driving Switzerland’s manufacturing competitiveness have long been a subject of interest among researchers, industry experts, and policymakers. While multiple explanations exist, a holistic understanding remains crucial.

This thesis explores the key determinants of Switzerland’s manufacturing competitiveness, while also assessing future opportunities and strategies to enhance it. By providing a deeper insight into the importance of a resilient manufacturing base, the study highlights its critical role in ensuring long-term economic strength and sustainability.

We expect:

  • Student in economics, management, (business) psychology, (industrial) engineering, computer science or a similar field
  • Interest in issues related to manufacturing and production management (interest in strategic management also welcome)
  • Result-oriented and structured work ethos with, motivation, initiative and accuracy
  • Ideally, initial experience in a business environment through internships or part-time jobs
  • Very good knowledge of English as well as knowledgeable handling with the common MS-Office programs
