Research Associate / Ph.D. Student (m/w/d) in Entrepreneurship (70%) 


starting immediately or upon mutual agreement. 


The Global Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (GCEI) is the leading institution of the University of St. Gallen that integrates research activities in the fields of entrepreneurship, family business and innovation. The announced position is part of a recently granted Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) research project on “Overcoming Gender Stereotypes in New Venture Board Networks”. As part of a international research team, you will participate in this research project and contribute to its successful implementation and the center’s varied activities in teaching and outreach.


Your task 

  • Your work on your dissertation is connected to the SNF funded research project, which focuses on board appointments among new technology ventures. That is, director selection mechanisms and the role of networks, barriers toward women, and the effects of gender diversity on performance.
  • You receive regular coaching to advance your dissertation and support from a highly motivated and experienced international team of scholars.
  • You support all research project related activities and get engaged in the international research community. You will be involved in (data collection) activities with executives, board members, and entrepreneurs.
  • You support teaching activities and support supervising bachelor and master theses. 
  • You can be involved in outreach activities and will also learn how to communicate your research to the general public. 


Your profile 

  • You hold a very strong Master's degree in management, psychology, economics, sociology or related disciplines.
  • You have a strong motivation and curiosity for research on phenomena in the domain of (female) entrepreneurship, new ventures, board of directors, and (gender) diversity. 
  • You have strong analytical skills. The research project requires qualitative as well as quantitative methodological approaches, which you are capable of or are eager acquiring them. Statistic software knowledge is a plus.
  • You are a team player with a high level of personal initiative and ability to work independently.
  • You have an excellent command of written and spoken English. Speaking (Swiss) German can be a plus.
  • You fulfil the Ph.D. admission requirements by the University of St.Gallen.
